Collin Hlavac Obituary, Death – Collin Hlavac, 18, of Viborg, died on December 9, 2023, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. The funeral will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Viborg-Hurley High School Gym on December 17, 2023. Visitation will be held at the School on Saturday, December 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used to create a memorial in Collin’s honour.
Collin Hlavac was born on October 28, 2005 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD to Cory and Nancy Hlavac. He joined his older brother Mathew. Collin received his baptism and confirmation at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in rural Irene. He went to Viborg-Hurley High School and played football in junior high. He was employed by Stockman’s Livestock. Collin also assisted Matt and Tanya with their farms, caring cows, fencing, field labour and whatever else they need. Collin enjoyed going fishing with Matt. It was a catch-and-release programme because neither of them wanted to ever be cleaned.
Collin was constantly doing something. He enjoyed being outside, tinkering and fixing or wrecking things. He was always willing to help, whether it was at home with chores and washing, at the flower shop with his mother, or on the farm with his father with whatever needed to be done. Collin was there from planting to harvesting (not to mention mending things). Collin’s most recent pride and joy was his new Ford F350 pickup truck. He enjoyed being with family and attending family gatherings, where he ate all of the delicious food that was prepared. Collin enjoyed horseback riding with his pal Gracie and spending time at the farm.
Collin is survived by his parents, Cory and Nancy, brother Mathew (fiancée Tanya Royston), grandparents Richard and Theresa Hlavac and Pat Munkvold, great-grandmother Doris Sees, brothers and aunts, nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and his dogs Oakley and Charlie, as well as his cats Sami and Princess. Collin was predeceased by his grandfather, Virgil Munkvold, and numerous family members.
