Jerry Sheindlin is an American author, television personality, jurist and attorney. Sheindlin spent years as a trial judge at the New York Supreme Court. He became a television personality after replacing New York City Mayor Ed Koch as the presiding judge on The People’s Court in the fall of 1999.

Sheindlin was born on 19th November 1933 in New York City. He received B.A. from Long Island University and an L.L.B. from Brooklyn Law School, in 1959. Sheindlin is the author of two books titled Genetic Fingerprinting: The Law and Science of DNA Evidence and Blood Trail.
Jerry Sheindlin became a television arbitrator when he replaced former New York City Mayor Ed Koch as the presiding judge on The People’s Court in the fall of 1999. His wife, Judith Sheindlin, is also a former judge who presided over the top-rated court show Judge Judy, which ran for 25 seasons from 1996 to 2021 and led to the spin-off courtroom streaming series Judy Justice.
Sheindlin is currently married to Judy Sheindlin. They married in 1977 (a second time after previously divorcing in 1990). They have three children namely Gregory, Jonathan and Nicole. Jerry Sheindlin was previously married to Suzanne Rosenthal in 1975 and divorced in 1977.
